The Course at Mallow Golf Club

Mallow is an 18-hole, par 72 parkland course in the Blackwater Valley, north Cork — 6,493 yards from the blue tees (white 6,234, yellow 6,027, red 5,301), open 8am to dusk every day and about 30 minutes from Cork city.

Blackwater Valley · Parkland

Parkland golf designed by J. D. Harris

The course at Mallow Golf Club was laid out by J. D. Harris on rolling parkland at Ballyellis, just outside Mallow town. Mature trees line most of the fairways, the ground rises and falls throughout the round, and several holes take their names from the hills and landmarks of north Cork — Galtymore, Ballyhoura, Mushera and Mount Hillary among them.

It is a genuine test from the blue tees — the 454-yard 7th, Galtymore, is stroke index 1 and the 12th, The Beeches, runs to 553 yards — yet it stays playable for every handicap from the forward tees. The greens are regarded as among the best in Munster, and the five par threes, from the 125-yard 16th (The Quarry) to the 192-yard closing hole, Avondhu, are a real strength of the layout.

Tee lengths: Blue 6,493 yds · White 6,234 · Yellow 6,027 · Red 5,301 yds. Par 72 from every tee (out 37, in 35).
